A Word On Sugar + Honey

Many people wonder if you can use brown sugar in a lip scrub, and the answer is yes! You can pretty much use whatever sugar you have to hand, but if it’s particularly dense like some brown sugars, you may want to opt for a lighter grain. On the other hand if your sugar is too coarse you may want to give it a raz in your nutribullet or with a hand blender

One tip is to rub a small bit onto the inside of your wrist, if it hurts, its not fine enough!

Can You Make a Lip Scrub With Honey And Sugar?

Absolutely, and for many this might be the easier option if they already have honey in the larder. However we thought we’d offer a vegan alternative that utilises some of the beneficial power of plants

Carrier Oils

Carrier oils, or base oils, are just a fancy way of saying whatever oil you want to provide your lips with moisture

So here you can be as simple or fancy as you like

Sunflower oil may not seem like a luxurious skin care oil, but it is lightweight, full of vitamin E and anti-oxidents - and that makes it a great base for a skin scrub

Whereas you might want to delve into more luxurious Apricot Kernel Oil, with its wealth of Vitamin A, E and Omega fatty acids

Other oils you may want to try

  1. Almond Oil

  2. Argan Oil

  3. Jojoba Oil

  4. Rosehip Seed Oil

  5. Essential oils, we have a range of blends for you to try out however Peppermint Oil is a popular choice as some studies have shown it help to temporarily plump the lips

The Wild Sage Lip Scrub Method

3 x Tablespoons of sugar

1 x Tablespoon of your chosen oil

2 x drops of essential oil (if using)

Mix together in a sterilised bowl until combined (adding more sugar or oil where needed)

Transfer to your container of choice (i used an old Frankincense + Shea body butter tin that i had cleaned out

Store in the fridge or a cool dry place and use within one month. Try to avoid getting any water in the tin as this can cause it to go bad - it’s easier to use a spoon :)

Apply to the lips as and when needed and gently massage over the skin. You can simply wipe away the sugar and leave the oils to continue to moisturise for the rest of the day

Remember, Lip Scrubs should be used to gently buff away dead skin cells and not as a remedy for cracked or flaky lips as this can cause further damage - if you are suffering from these then it is better to stick to a deeply moisturising lip balm
